Volleyball Concludes Season With 3-1 Loss to ICC in District Tournament

Hawks End Season at 31-7

The Heartland volleyball team traveled to East Peoria on Saturday to compete in the Region-24 District Tournament at Illinois Central College, with a chance to advance to the NJCAA DII National Tournament in Cedar Rapids, IA. The tournament was split into two separate brackets, with each bracket featuring four teams. After defeating John Wood Community College in their first match of the day, the Hawks would ultimately fall to the host ICC in their second match.
 
In Saturday's opening match, the Hawks cruised to a 3-0 sweep of John Wood to stay alive in bracket play. Olivia Pippin finished the contest with 11 kills and 9 digs. Samantha Hovey added 30 assists, whileKaitlin Dean finished with 8 kills and 13 digs.
 
The Hawks returned Saturday afternoon for a rematch with ICC, after dropping a thrilling regular season match in Normal to the Cougars. After ICC took the first set, Heartland responded with a 25-14 victory in set two. The Cougars then followed with two straight set wins to take home the match victory. Dean led the Hawks with 13 kills and 14 digs. Kennedy Conrad contributed 32 digs. Hovey tossed in 36 assists.
 
Heartland concludes its season with a 31-7 overall record that included wins in 20 of its last 23 matches, and seven wins over ranked opponents. Hovey and Dean were named to the Region-24 All-Region First Team, while Aaliyah Denius earned Second Team All-Region honors for the Hawks.
