Six Soccer Players Named NJCAA All-Americans

Hawks Soccer Teams Continue to Receive Awards from Fantastic Season.

The Hawks men's and women's soccer teams have been racking up the post-season awards which were capped off this week by six student-athletes being named NJCAA DII All-Americans.

On the men's team, sophomores Charlie Bushby and Ozman Ochoa were named Second Team All-Americans. Bushby led the Hawks in goals and assists this season with eight and seven, respectively. Bushby was also named to the National Tournament All-Tournament team for his performance at the championships. Ochoa, who served as captain of the men's team, was also recognized as an All-American for his efforts this season. Ochoa, playing primarily as a midfielder, had four goals and one assist this season. On and off the field, Ochoa was a crucial piece to the Hawks' success this season.

For the National Champion women's team, four Hawks received All-American honors. Sophomore goal keeper, Bekah Nielsen, was named as a First Team All-American for the second straight season. Only one goalie in the nation is chosen as a First Team All-American and Nielsen has earned that prestigious honor for the second year in a row. Nielsen, who sat out two games due to injury, played 18 of the 20 games this season. In those 18 games, Nielsen allowed just six goals. Nielsen's goals against average was 0.41, third best in the nation.

Sophomore forward, Lucia Cuadra, was also named as a First Team All-American for the second straight season. Cuadra, who played and started in all 20 games for the Hawks, led the nation in goals scored this season as she racked up a whopping 40 goals. Cuadra also led the nation in game-winning goals, with nine. Cuadra also led the team in assists this season with 12, fourteenth best in the nation.

Also receiving All-American honors are sophomores, Alicia Martinez and Laia Gonzalez. Both Martinez and Gonzalez were named as Honorable Mention All-Americans. Martinez, who proved to be one of the best midfielders in the nation, had six goals and six assists this season. Martinez played a huge role in the Hawks' dominant offense and National Championship run. Rounding out the All-American awards is forward, Laia Gonzalez. Gonzalez, playing counterpart to Cuadra all season, picked up a whopping 20 goals and 11 assists this season. Gonzalez also had six game-winning goals, which was fifth best in the nation.

Congrats to these six Hawks on their special achievement!
