Hawks Win Big in Second Regular Season Match

Robles Pulls Out the Hat Trick

Normal, Illinois - It was a game to remember for these ladies last night. The Hawks put up a season-high seven goals to lead the team to a 7-0 victory over the Eagles of Scott Community College. It was an impressive showing for a team that is coming off a season where they had a record of 3-12-1. They are only two games into the season, but they never had a game like this last year where they put up an astronomical score to crush an opponent.

The onslaught happened right away as not even five minutes into the game Irene Robles received a pass from Lexia Aranda and scored her first career goal as a Heartland Hawk. Sixty-three seconds later, Robles recorded her second goal of the year in the blink of an eye.

Later in the first half, two other players made their first goals of the 2019 season. Kayla James received a ball from Robles that she capitalized on with a hard shot into the back of the net at the 16' mark. Ashley Mathias scored at the 29' minute for her first goal this year, which made the halftime score a soul-crushing 4-0.

The Eagles came out in the second half with a little more confidence in their attack. Even though they would give up three more goals, they put up some really nice shots that either just missed the goal or were saved nicely by Ana Clara Bigarella and later, Cassidy Ferguson. They finished with seven total shots, but six of those came in the second half.

The biggest shot of the game came at the 61st minute. Robles made her third goal for the highly coveted hat-trick. She finished with three goals and an assist on the day. It was a game that she will never forget as she was playing in only her second contest in the United States after she arrived earlier this summer from her homeland of Barcelona, Spain.

To top it all off, Montanna Stewart recorded her second goal of the year just two minutes later, and Alicia Martinez scored her second goal as well when she was fouled inside the box at the 76'. She made the penalty kick look effortlessly, and the Hawks eventually rode off with the 7-0 landslide.

Note: Joana Aguilar was scratched from the starting lineup last minute as she is nursing an injury. Xitlai Sifuentes took her place and played 65 minutes.

The next women's match is on Saturday, August 31st at 12:00 PM when they travel to Sugar Grove to face Waubonsee Community College. They go on a long road stretch as they will face a total of five teams until they are back at The Corn Crib. Next home game is set for Wednesday, September 18th at 6:00 PM in an MWAC fixture against John Wood Community College.
