Softball Sweeps Home Series Against Lewis & Clark

Jasmine McCormick Records First Grand Slam of the Season

NORMAL, Ill. -  The Hawks entered the weekend ranked #11 in the NJCAA Division II softball rankings as they hosted Lewis & Clark Community College at the Corn Crib on Saturday. The two teams met earlier in the year in Godfrey, Illinois where the Hawks would sweep the series on the road. A grand slam by Jasmine McCormick and a home run by Maddie Mackey (Northern Illinois University commit) helped the Hawks take the season sweep against the Trailblazers, seeing their record improve to 18-7 on the year.

Game 1 (W, 7-1)

Lewis & Clark were the first on the board in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from Bethany Muenstermann, scoring Lauren Meadows to take a 1-0 lead. That would be the only run the Trailblazers would put on the board all game, as Tijanne Ross (University of Wisconsin - Parkside commit) led the charge on defense striking out eight and only walking one. At the plate, it was sophomore Jasmine McCormick that got the Hawks started with a grand slam to left field off of Lewis & Clark's Sydney Henrichs, giving the Hawks a 4-1 lead. An error from left-fielder Mackenzie Masters would see Maddie Mackey score on a Danielle Ladendorf single to give the Hawks a five run lead in the third inning. A double from Mackey in the bottom of the fourth inning would score two runners, bringing the score to the final 7-1 score.

Game 2 (W, 2-0)

The second game of the afternoon's double header turned out to be a pitcher's duel between Heartland's Marissa Adams (University of Wisconsin - Whitewater commit) and Lewis & Clark's Hannah Rexford. Both pitchers played the entire game, allowing only 10 total hits in the game between the two teams. The one scoring play in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run home run from Maddie Mackey, bringing the game to the final score of 2-0. Marissa Adams recorded her first shutout of the year as the Hawks improved their conference record to 8-4.

The Hawks return home on Saturday, April 13th for a 1:00 PM double header against Spoon River College. You can catch the live stream of all softball games this season by clicking here, and follow along with live stats by clicking here.
