Normal, IL. - The Heartland Hawks hosted the Jefferson College Vikings on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks dropped the contest 6-4, as defense proved to be the determining factor. The Vikings played a clean game scoring six on four hits and no errors, as the Hawks made five errors.
Shane Gorman (1-2) took the loss on the mound for the Hawks giving up three runs on two hits in 4.0 innings of work. A great effort from the Hawks bullpen kept them in the game as the offense chipped away at a five run deficit. The bullpen gave up three runs (one earned) on two hits in the remaining 5.0 innings.
Matt Barnes, Central Catholic graduate, led the offense going 2-for-3 with two triples and an RBI.
Shakur Jackson returned from an early season injury going 1-for-2 with a run scored.
The Hawks move to 13-8 (4-4) on the season with the loss. The Hawks return to action Friday, April 5
th in Canton, IL at 1:00 PM as they take on Spoon River College in conference play.
