KANKAKEE, Ill. - Normal West High School alum
Jake Marti recorded his sixth multi-RBI game Tuesday against the Kankakee Community College Cavaliers with a solo homerun and an RBI single. The Hawks are now 20-10 on the year after losing an inter-regional matchup against Kankakee.
The Hawks would utilize nine pitchers throughout Tuesday's game in Kankakee, none of which threw more than one inning. With no errors recorded in the game by either sides, it was the Cavaliers' solid batting and steady chipping away at the Hawks that led to a run-rule in the seventh inning to end the game.
Kankakee were the first on the board in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run hit by Wade Rankin to give the Cavaliers an early 2-0 lead. At the top of the next inning,
Jake Marti hit a homerun of his own to bring the Hawks within one after two innings of play. That would be the closest the Hawks would come to catching up with the Cavaliers, as they would score at least one run in each of the remaining innings of the game.
The only two other runs the Hawks would go on to score would be in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single to left field by
Billy Mote that would score
Miles Simington, and in the seventh inning on an RBI single from
Jake Marti.
The Hawks return home on Friday, April 19th at 2:00 PM for a doubleheader against conference rivals Parkland College. You can live stream all home games by clicking
