#7 Hawks Down #3 Sinclair Community College

Hawks get on the board early with a five-run first inning

Normal, IL. – The #7 Heartland Hawks hosted the #3 Sinclair Community College on Tuesday afternoon at the Corn Crib. The Hawks would use a five run first inning, which brought eleven men to the plate, to down Sinclair 13-5.

Jake Armstrong (1-0) took the mound for the Hawks in their midweek match-up. Armstrong went 4.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out five.

Sinclair chipped away at the early Hawks' lead. Blake Harseim (1-0, 1 S) allowed his only run in the top of the fifth, bringing the score to 6-4. Harseim worked a scoreless sixth inning after the Hawks left the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth. The offense finally busted the game open in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four runs on four hits. A big one-out double from uncommitted sophomore Peyton Dillingham (3-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI) scored two. Freshman Jake Marti (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) followed with a two-out homerun over the left field fence, bringing the Hawks' lead to 10-4 after six innings of play.

In the eighth inning, Sinclair added a run on two hits; the Hawks would answer with three runs of their own, highlighted by Michael Bieterman's RBI single to right field, improving the Hawks' lead to 13-5. Bieterman finished his day 2-for-4 with two RBI's.

Harseim picked up the win in his 2.1 innings of relief for his first collegiate victory.

Tim Sullivan (2-for-5) and Miles Simington (3-for-5, 3 R) had multiple hit games, and continue to be solid performers in the Hawks lineup.

Tuesday's win moved the Hawks to 12-3 (3-1) on the season, and ended a stretch of 13 games in nine days. The Hawks will pick back up in Danville, IL for Mid-West Athletic Conference (MWAC) action against Danville Area Community College on Friday, March 22nd at 1:00 PM.
