Heartland Win's Last Home Match of Regular Season

Overtime Own Goal Gives the Hawks the Victory

Normal, Illinois - The Hawks won this one with a final score of 2-1. The game went into overtime, and it felt as though the game would end in a tie as both teams struggled to get any shots off towards the goal the entire match. However, less than two minutes into the second overtime period, Leilany Contreras booted a pass from the other side of midfield that landed at the feet of Irene Robles. Irene turned and kicked an accurate through ball down the right side of the pitch to teammate Kayla James. Kayla ran down into the box, attempted a ground pass to Daisy Covarrubias, but the pass was deflected by a Kaskaskia defender. For a split second after the ball was touched, it felt as though another scoring opportunity was coming to a close. The crowd and Hawks team erupted with joy, however, as the deflected pass was unluckily kicked into the back of Kaskaskia's net. The game was over at that moment, and the Hawks' players and fans could celebrate a hard-fought victory in their last home match of the regular season.

Scoring Plays
- Irene Robles records her 5th goal of the season on a penalty kick (13')
- Allyson Fehrmann ties it up 1-1 with a penalty kick (22')
- Own Goal by Kaskaskia College in 2OT (102')

The Hawks finish the regular season with an overall record of 7-5, but most noticeably, 5-0 at home. Currently, the Hawks sit at #2 in the conference standings, and there is still one more week of games remaining for the MWAC. The Region 24 Tournament seeding is TBD. A follow-up story will be posted later this week or early next week with the tournament information. Stay tuned.
