Hawks End Regular Season With 10-4 Record
NORMAL, Illinois - The Heartland Hawks have never seen 10 wins in the regular season since the program was started in 2007. After last night's 2-1 victory over the Lincoln Land Community College Loggers, the Hawks have their sights on first round of the playoffs, where they will likely face John Wood Community College for the second time this season.
Coming off of a 2-1 road victory against St. Ambrose University's JV squad and solidifying an undefeated record on the road, the Hawks were ready to close the regular season with a three game win streak as they hosted conference foes from Lincoln Land Community College.
It didn't take long for the Hawks to strike, scoring two goals within nine minutes of each other in the first half of the match. The first came in the 16th minute, where freshman
Bowen Wyminga found
Lewis Dale to take a 1-0 lead on the Loggers. Dale, a sophomore from Doncaster, England, had a game-high three shots on goal, recording his third goal of the season. It was just nine minutes later in the 25th minute that
Angel Lopez put a shot in the back of the net on a beautiful feeding pass from
Matheus Giron, bringing the Hawks to a 2-0 lead in the game. Lopez would end the regular season with four goals and one assist, tied with forwards
Trevor Kacou and
Bowen Wyminga for second most goals for the Hawks this season.
The Loggers lone goal would come from a penalty kick taken by Christian Fierro, cutting the Loggers deficit to one going into the second half. The second half would see the Hawks outshoot the Loggers 10-4, but none would find the net for either team, ending the match with a final score of 2-1.
The Hawks return home on Wednesday, October 24th for the first round of the playoffs. Kick off time and opponent are TBD. All home games are free to attend and are played at the Corn Crib.
