No. 5 Heartland def. No. 14 Iowa Central, 3-2
The Hawks started yesterday's game in a very uncharacteristic manner, surrendering two goals in the first seven minutes to stun Heartland. The Hawks picked themselves off the ground and locked in with a goal in the 11
th minute by forward
Desiree Fassin. Going into half down by one, Heartland needed to come out with their hair on fire, and that is exactly what they did. CAM
Jasmin Geronimo potted a long goal to tie the game in the 60
th minute. In the 72
nd minute, defender
Luana Jarolin delivered an incredible pass to forward
Ava LaFollette who gave Heartland the lead 3-2. After the two initial goals from Iowa Central, the Hawks shut down any offensive chance the Tritons wanted – constantly intercepting passes and pushing the ball into the offensive end. The Hawks ended with eight SOG to reinforce that fact. Geronimo and Fassin continue to lead the Hawks with six goals in seven games played.
The Hawks play again in their MWAC opener against Parkland this Thursday at The Corn Crib at 3:00 p.m.
