Softball Splits with Lincoln Land in Rescheduled Match-up

Home Runs by Ladendorf and Walter Not Enough to Edge the Loggers in Game 1

NORMAL, Ill. - Despite getting on the board first in Game 1 of the evening, the Hawks would fall to Lincoln Land after the Loggers put a combined seven runs up in two innings. A stellar pitching performance by freshman and Washington, Illinois native Sarah Crebo would help the Hawks take Game 2 to split the series.

Game 1 (L, 3-9)

Maddie Mackey (Northern Illinois University commit) wasted no time driving in Jasmine McCormick on a ground-out to the shortstop in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Hawks an early 1-0 lead on the Loggers. It was in the top of the third that Lincoln Land took a two run lead on a double down the right field line by Kari Sarhage, scoring all three runners on base. Lincoln Land would continue to add to the run column in the fourth inning, adding four more runs on five hits, bringing the score to 7-1 going into the fifth inning. The Hawks made a late push in the fifth inning on a homerun from Molly Walter, and another homerun in the bottom of the sixth from Danielle Ladendorf, but it wasn't enough to edge Lincoln Land.

Game 2 (W, 6-2)

Sarah Crebo took the mound for Heartland in the second game of the evening, allowing only one earned run on five hits, going on to improve her record to 3-0. The Loggers were off to a quick start at the plate, scoring on a single to center field, which would be the only run they scored until the seventh. Danielle Ladendorf got the Hawks started in the third inning on a single to right center, scoring Jasmine McCormick and tying the game at one after three. In the bottom of the sixth, freshman Alysa Martin scored three on a triple to center field, going on to score on a throwing error by Lincoln Land's Hailey Patrick. Molly Walter added another run on a left field single that scored Jasmine McCormick to bring the score to 6-1. Lincoln Land would add one more run in the top of the seventh on a Brooke Webber single but were unable to pull ahead of the Hawks.

The Hawks travel to Danville, Illinois on Tuesday, April 2nd for an Mid-West Athletic Conference double header against Danville Area Community College starting at 4:00 PM.
