QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks were on the road Tuesday afternoon as they met John Wood Community College for a Mid-West Athletic Conference doubleheader. Allowing only one run and scoring 19 runs between the two games, the Hawks would see their conference record improve to 12-4 and extend their win streak to seven games.
Game 1 (W, 6-1)
Alyssa Roll took the mound for the first game of the afternoon, pitching all seven innings for the Hawks and allowing only one run on five hits to improve her record to 6-2 on the season.
The Hawks were quick to put three runs up against the Blazers, with
Alysa Martin driving in
Jasmine McCormick just two batters into the game. Martin would go on to score from second base on a single hit by Maddie Mackie (Northern Illinois University commit) that resulted in an error committed by John Wood's Tatum Rodriguez. The third run of the inning was scored by
Danielle Ladendorf on an RBI double to right field hit by
Abbey Walsh. John Wood would score their only run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an Emma Taylor homerun over the left field fence. The top of the sixth inning would see the Blazers walk in a run to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead going into the seventh inning. It was in the seventh that
Danielle Witzig sealed the game for the Hawks with a double to left field that would score
Abbey Walsh and
Grace LaFollett.
Game 2 (W, 13-0)
Game two of the afternoon saw an early end, as the Hawks run-ruled the Blazers in five innings.
Sarah Crebo saw her record improve to 10-2 on the season, winning nine consective games on the mound for the Hawks. Crebo allowed only four hits in 5.0 innings pitched, striking out two and walking one, posting her fourth shutout win in her freshman year at Heartland.
The Hawks would score a run in each of the five innings played in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader, putting seven up in the third inning. Eight batters posted at least one hit, with four recording extra base hits.
Molly Walter,
Jasmine McCormick, and
Maddie Mackey hit doubles, and
Grace LaFollett hit her first triple of the year that would clear the bases and score three runs in the third inning. Freshman
Alysa Martin led the Hawks with three hits in the game, and
Jasmine McCormick continued her impressive season with two hits and led game with three runs scored. McCormick has 15 multi-hit games this season and leads the Hawks with 45 hits on the year.
